Squonk Vaping Guide 2026
What Is a Squonk Mod?
A squonk mod (also called a bottom-feed mod) is a box mod with a built-in squeezable e-liquid bottle inside the body. Instead of dripping e-liquid onto your coils through the drip tip, you squeeze the bottle to push juice up through the 510 connector and into your RDA from below. This gives you the flavor and vapor of an RDA without the hassle of carrying a separate juice bottle and dripping every few puffs.
Squonking combines the best of both worlds: the convenience of a tank system with the performance of a rebuildable dripping atomizer. It is especially popular among flavor chasers and cloud enthusiasts who prefer the direct, uncompromised flavor of an RDA.
Why Go Squonk?
| Advantage | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| No dripping required | Squeeze the bottle to re-wet your coils -- no need to carry a juice bottle or drip through the tip |
| Superior flavor | RDAs deliver the purest flavor of any atomizer type; squonking lets you enjoy it all day |
| Bigger builds | RDAs have more build space than RTAs, allowing larger coils and more complex wire configurations |
| Easy to build | Most RDAs are simpler to build and wick than RTAs -- just drop in a coil and wick |
| Leak-resistant design | When set up correctly, squonk RDAs leak less than RTAs because there are no juice flow control issues |
Squonk Mods vs Regular Mods
The key difference is the internal bottle and hollow 510 pin. A squonk mod has a soft silicone or plastic bottle inside that connects to a hollow center pin. When you squeeze the bottle, juice flows through the pin into the RDA's build deck. Most squonk bottles hold 6-10ml of e-liquid, giving you hours of vaping between refills.
Squonk mods come in two types:
- Mechanical squonkers -- unregulated, direct battery output. Simple and durable, but require Ohm's Law knowledge and battery safety discipline.
- Regulated squonkers -- variable wattage/temperature control with safety protections. Safer for beginners and more versatile.

Squonk-Compatible RDAs
| RDA | Deck | Airflow | BF Pin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recoil R3 24mm RDA (Thunder Cloud) | Two-post, single/dual coil | Side airflow, adjustable | Included |
Most RDAs with a BF (bottom feed) pin can be used on a squonk mod. The Recoil R3 comes with a squonk pin included, making it a great choice for squonk beginners.
How to Set Up a Squonk Mod
Step 1: Install the BF Pin
Make sure your RDA has a squonk pin (hollow center pin) installed instead of the standard solid pin. The Recoil R3 comes with both pins -- use the one with a hole through the center.
Step 2: Build and Wick Your RDA
Build your coil as usual. For squonking, aim for coils that work well with your preferred wattage and airflow. Check out our coil building guide for detailed instructions.
Step 3: Fill the Bottle
Remove the squonk bottle from the mod, open the top cap, and fill with your e-liquid. Reinsert the bottle and make sure the tube connects properly to the 510 pin.
Step 4: Prime and Squonk
Squeeze the bottle gently until you see juice appear at the coil airflow slots. Release -- the bottle will suck excess juice back down. Vape as normal. When flavor drops, give the bottle another squeeze.
Squonk vs Dripping vs RTA
| Factor | Squonk | Dripping | RTA |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flavor | Excellent | Excellent | Very good |
| Convenience | High (squeeze to re-wet) | Low (drip every 3-5 puffs) | High (tank holds juice) |
| Juice capacity | 6-10ml | N/A (drip as needed) | 2-8ml |
| Build ease | Easy (RDA deck) | Easy (RDA deck) | Moderate (wicking matters) |
| Portability | Good (all-in-one) | Poor (need juice bottle) | Excellent (sealed tank) |
Squonk Safety Tips
- Check your squonk pin -- always make sure the BF pin is installed before using your RDA on a squong mod. A solid pin will not allow juice to flow through.
- Dont overtighten -- the 510 pin on squonk RDAs can be delicate. Tighten until snug, then stop.
- Clean the tube -- over time, the squonk tube can collect residue. Rinse with warm water every few refills.
- Carry spare batteries -- mechanical squonkers drain batteries faster than regulated mods at the same wattage.
- Use a regulated mod first -- if you are new to squonking, start with a regulated squonker like the Ultroner Aether before trying a mechanical squong mod.
FAQ
Can I use any RDA on a squonk mod?
Only RDAs with a hollow BF (bottom feed) pin. Most modern RDAs include a squonk pin in the package. Check the product description or packaging before buying.
Does squonking leak?
Not if set up correctly. The key is not to oversquonk -- squeeze just enough to wet the coil, not flood the deck. Excess juice gets sucked back into the bottle when you release.
